Terms and Conditions of Public Entry

COUNCIL OF TRUSTEES OF THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA (NGV)

By entering the NGV Premises, each person (You or Your) agrees to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions of Public Entry:

1.    Whenever You are on the NGV Premises You must not:
1.1    touch, or in any other way, interfere with artwork on display;
1.2    use photographic or recording equipment in areas where this has been restricted (the NGV’s Photography and Filming Guidelines are available from the Information Desk);
1.3    use tripods, flash or lighting equipment without the express permission of the NGV (the NGV’s Photography and Filming Guidelines are available from the Information Desk);
1.4    use mobile phones or other devices to make or receive calls  in artwork display areas;
1.5    smoke in the building;
1.6    eat or drink in artwork display areas or other places where this is restricted;  and
1.7    bring animals onto the NGV Premises, except for Guide Dogs and other registered assistance dogs.

2.    The NGV reserves the right to:

2.1    exclude or remove the public or any other person from any building, or part of any building, managed or controlled by the NGV (Council By-Law);
2.2    inspect any bag, luggage or object, however described, upon entry to and before leaving the NGV Premises; and
2.3    use Security Closed Circuit Television cameras throughout the NGV Premises.

3.    Whenever You are on the NGV Premises You must:
3.1    comply with any rules or policies, established by the NGV, which are in existence at the time of Your visit;
3.2    conduct yourself in a manner which, in the reasonable opinion of the NGV, does not interfere with, disrupt or offend other persons on the NGV Premises;
3.3    deposit with the NGV Cloakroom, as soon as possible after entry, any object  larger than 56cm x 36cm x 23cm  in size or any other item, as directed by the NGV;
3.4    wear footwear at all times which will protect You against injury;
3.5     take notes or make sketches only in accordance with the NGV Sketching and Note-taking Guidelines, available from the Information Desk;
3.6    at all times, supervise any children (including school students) for whom You are responsible and ensure that they do not breach any of these Terms and Conditions of Public Entry;  and
3.7    comply with any reasonable request, including signage, by the NGV in relation to Your entry or continued presence on the NGV Premises.

4.    You indemnify the NGV in respect of all claims made in connection with Your attendance at the NGV Premises, except where such claim arises as a result of a negligent or wilful act, omission or otherwise, or an act or omission that is intended to cause damage or loss, by the NGV.

5.    To the full extent permitted by law, You release and discharge the NGV from all claims and demands on the NGV and any loss or damage whatsoever and whenever caused, arising from Your attendance at the NGV Premises.

6.    If any of these Terms and Conditions of Public Entry are  illegal or unenforceable, the offending part is to be disregarded and does not affect the remaining part.

7.    In these Terms and Conditions of Public Entry, the phrase 'NGV Premises' includes The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square, Melbourne,  NGV International at 180 St Kilda Road, Melbourne, NGV Kids Corner at Federation Square, Melbourne and any other premises managed or controlled by the NGV and at which these Terms and Conditions are displayed.
