Electric Fields vocalist and multidisciplinary artist Zaachariaha Fielding, along with his father – contemporary artist Robert Fielding – speak with NGV Senior Curator of Australian and First Nations Art Myles Russell-Cook about the importance of community in their creative practice.

Robert Fielding is a contemporary artist of Pakistani, Afghan, Western Arrente and Yankunytjatjara descent, who lives in Mimili Community in the remote Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. Fielding combines strong cultural roots with contemporary views on the tensions between community life and global concerns.

Zaachariaha Fielding is one half of Electric Fields. A multidisciplinary artist, Fielding also lays bare the constellations of his emotions, memories and experiences in his artworks.

Myles Russell-Cook is Senior Curator of Australian and First Nations Art the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). Myles’s passion is for First Nations contemporary art. He has published extensively on art, design and fashion, and curated a number of exhibitions at the NGV. Myles derives much personal and professional influence and inspiration from his maternal Aboriginal heritage in Western Victoria with connections into Tasmania and the Bass Strait Islands.
