Arkley recorded his ideas in over forty notebooks and albums, which contained notes, sketches, and source images. His studio overflowed with a profusion of eclectic source material and his library of art history, design, ornamentation and architecture was extensive. He also possessed a diverse music collection which included John Cage, Jazz, Blues and early Hip Hop. In his early career he made notes on the connections between art and music.
