This film highlights the architecture and art of the baroque
and Caravaggio’s place in this European art movement.

While Caravaggio’s paintings reflect a profound and
original awareness his private life was fraught with prostitutes,
brawls, duels, arrests and liberal cases. A film by Derek
Jarman. Please note: this film is R rated.

Arrested Moment (30 Mins)
This film explores how painters achieved movement in still
life. The program is a journey from the time of Caravaggio,
through photography to the work of Hockney and Pollock.

An evening at Stephanie Alexander’s Richmond Hill Café
& Larder with Laurie Benson, NGV Assistant Curator, International Art
This
special event lets you discover more about the fruits,
cheeses and wines of the regions that would have influenced
Caravaggio. In the wonderful
setting especially created, NGV’s Laurie Benson will
provide a visual overview to detail the tasty morsels and
other symbolisms that feature in the extraordinarily rich
still life paintings of Caravaggio and his World. Enjoy mature
seasonal Italian cheeses, matched with delicious Italian wines,
as we follow the travels of Caravaggio from Milan, Rome and
Naples. We will be entertained by live baroque music. Wine and
food is included in the cost.
