  This exhibition is the fourth in the acclaimed Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series and will present iconic artworks since 1940 from the worldwide collections of the famous Guggenheim Museum. From Abstract Expressionism to Minimalism, Pop Art to Video Art, the show takes the visitor on a journey through the major movements in postwar and contemporary art, demonstrating the breadth and diversity of the Guggenheim’s holdings. The exhibition opens 30 June 2007.

  This exhibition brings together 19th century photographs and albums that document far-ranging travels popularised in the West, from the ‘eternal cities’ of Europe, to mystical sites of the East, and romanticised, picturesque ruins of Great Britain. Showing at NGV International until 30 September, 2007.

Floor Talk: Adventure, Travel & Desire –
19th century longing for the Orient

Join Orientalist expert Alison Inglis as she discusses the photographs in the exhibition and the impact that 19th century travel has had on western art, using examples from the NGV Collection.

Australian Impressionism

Don’t miss one of the most important exhibitions of Australian Impressionist art to be held in decades. See over 240 iconic and much–loved works by Australia’s leading impressionist artists including Charles Conder, Frederick McCubbin, Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton and Jane Sutherland.   Straddling the boundaries between art and fashion, Katie Pye was an Australian fashion innovator throughout the 1980s. This exhibition features over 25 outfits from the NGV Collection alongside contextual photography and video works. Now showing until 13 January.
