Over 1 million visitors have now visited the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition series. Exclusive to Melbourne, this is your last chance to see works gathered from Guggenheim museums from around the world. Now in its last weeks, Guggenheim Collection: 1940s to Now must close Sunday 7 October.

art after dark
See art in a different light every Wednesday until 3 October when the NGV comes alive with a variety of talks, live performances, music, and fine food, wine and cocktails. NGV International will also be open until 9pm Thursday 4, Friday 5 and Saturday 6 October. Students pay only $10 exhibition entry between 5–9pm on art after dark evenings.

  Take a powerful journey through the complex and layered work of Gordon Bennett, one of Australia’s most critically engaged contemporary artists. This retrospective exhibition will comprehensively present his work from 1989 to the present. Admission fees apply. NGV members $5 admission.

Unsettling Identities, Aboriginalities and other Contemporary Traumas: Gordon Bennett’s Aesthetic Prescriptions
This talk will examine the development of Bennett’s art since he graduated nearly twenty years ago, and its significant role in the shift from the artifice and mannerism of postmodernism to the reality and urgency of lived experience that characterises contemporary art. A particular focus will be Bennett’s interest in the contemporary affects of Australia’s traumatic origins.

Yvonne Audette is one of Australia’s most accomplished and leading abstract artists. This exhibition of paintings and drawings will focus on Audette’s expatriate years, from experimentation with abstract forms to the lyrical calligraphic and graffiti works for which she is renowned. Entry is free.
