Take a powerful journey through the complex and layered work of Gordon Bennett, one of Australia’s most critically engaged contemporary artists. | NGV Members Lounge | As many of you will have noticed, new artworks have been installed in the Members Lounge at NGV International. Join us to hear an NGV Curator talk about the display. Born in the USA A survey of paintings, prints and sculpture (from 1801 to 2003) by artists who were born or worked in the United States of America. This display tells a story of American art, starting with neo-classical portraiture, through to the sublime landscape, social realism, regionalism and abstraction and ending with art inspired by the digital age. 28 September 2007– 6 January 2008Bringing together a dynamic group of works from the last thirty years, this exhibition looks at how we have shaped the world and how the world we have created shapes us. Selected from The UBS Art Collection, one of the world’s finest corporate art collections, An incomplete world features over 50 paintings, photographs and sculptures by 31 artists. Leading international contemporary artists include; Damien Hirst, Andreas Gursky, Sarah Morris, Ed Ruscha, Lucian Freud, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Gerhard Richter and Cindy Sherman. ![]() For the first time in Australia, view the connections between the art of Joseph Beuys and the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner in this important exhibition. The writings of Austrian philosopher Steiner influenced German born Beuys, one of the most important artists of the second half of the twentieth century. Beuys was fascinated with Steiner’s teachings on politics, economics and intellectual freedom. Imagination, Inspiration, Intuition combines some forty blackboard drawings by Steiner with Beuys’ seminal installation of one hundred blackboards Directive forces (Richtkräfte) 1974–77. Now showing at NGV International until 17 February.
