In this photograph Cameron appears to be making associations between the
secular and the divine. Her choice of title implies that the model, Mary
Hillier (1847-1936), might be the vendor of the flowers in the foreground. On
the other hand, her costume and expression are reminiscent of Cameron's
Madonna studies.
