Henry Prinsep (1792–1878) had a distinguished career in India, holding
many important administrative posts and was appointed a member of the Council
of India. He married Julia Margaret Cameron's sister Sarah and they had four
children. The Prinsep family retired to England in 1843. They moved to Little
Holland House in 1850 where Sarah became the hostess of celebrated 'salons',
or gatherings, that included leading artists and writers of the period.
