The text that accompanies this photograph is from The Holy Grail,
published in 1869. It is the eighth book of Tennyson's Idylls of the King. On
the interleaving page to Cameron's illustration she has underscored the following
lines by Tennyson:
My knight, my love, my knight of heaven,
O thou my love, whose love is one with mine.
I, maiden, round thee, maiden, bind my belt.
According to legend, the belt that is referred to here was woven from the
maiden's cut hair. The models for this photograph are Mary Hillier and Mr
Coxhead.
