This photograph, also titled Julia Jackson, was taken before Cameron's niece and godchild married Herbert Duckworth. Cameron made several series of photographs of Julia between 1865 and 1867. She is photographed in profile, semi-profile and in frontal studies. Her well-defined features and distinctive bone structure seem to have inspired Cameron, who experimented with lighting her face in various ways.
