Sir Henry Taylor (1800–86) was a poet and civil servant. His literary achievements were greatly admired in the mid-Victorian period. His book of poems Philip Van Artevelde (1834), written in blank verse, was compared to Shakespeare's dramas. He was one of Julia Margaret Cameron's closest friends and as her most photographed male subject he appears in several other guises in this exhibition.
