Charles was born in England in 1849, a year after the Camerons retired there. In a letter to Sir John Herschel, Julia Maragaret Cameron complained that Charles and his younger brother, Henry, were fonder of amateur theatricals than their studies. Charles worked on the family coffee plantations in Ceylon with his elder brothers. There is no record that he married or had children.
