This major retrospective exhibition celebrates the work of Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, one of Australia's greatest painters. Clifford Possum had a ground-breaking career and was one of the very first artists to begin painting in Papunya preceding the 1971 arrival of teacher, Geoffrey Bardon, who encouraged the artists of Papunya to transfer their stories onto moveable surfaces. Clifford Possum was one of the last surviving members of Papunya Tula Artists. This is the first retrospective of a Papunya Tula artist in an Australian public gallery. The retrospective covers the artist's 30 year career, especially his most outstanding decade between 1972 and 1982.
A full-colour catalogue of the exhibition is available in the NGV Shop.
