Physical description
Black two-piece mourning dress comprising bodice and skirt of watered silk faille decorated with machine made black lace of flowers and bows. a) The jacket-bodice is boned with a concealed front closing and features a stand-up collar trimmed with small edging of cream tulle. Long fitted sleeves are trimmed with a lace ruffle at each cuff while the shorter elbow-length, over-sleeve is trimmed with a black satin band. b) The skirt is constructed of five gores and has a proper left side front opening. Flat at the front, the shaped gores create a serpentine flare at the rear. The skirt is decorated with two vertical bands of black floral lace placed either side of centre front and features three diagonally placed strips either side each decorated with a black tassel. A taffeta frill is concealed inside hem. Metal eyes attached to the waistband correspond with hooks on the inside bodice.
