Contempora Fellowship 2002 - 2004Conditions of EntryThe FellowshipThe Contempora Fellowship is an award for an Australian visual artist of $50,000 per annum for a two-year period, and is the third Contempora event after the Contempora5 prizes of 1999 & 1997. Incorporating the NGV's strategic vision - to bring art and people together - the Contempora Fellowship will comprise an intellectual residency of two years duration and a touring exhibition of new work by the Fellow produced during the Fellowship. An integral aspect of the Contempora Fellowship will be to extend the interaction between the recipient and the NGV through an exchange of ideas between the artist and the Gallery. The selected Fellow will effectively become an associate of the Gallery, and will be expected to participate in cultural forums and public programs at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, act in an ambassadorial role, and undertake travel to regional galleries to assist with outreach programs associated with the Fellowship and the Fellow's art practice. It is intended that the Fellowship will expand an awareness and interest in contemporary art amongst the broad public audience of the NGV. The appointment of the Contempora Fellow will occur in July 2002. The Fellowship will conclude in July 2004. The current timeline allows the Fellow time to develop ideas and work for an exhibition at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia in November 2003. A tour of two Victorian regional galleries is envisaged, with the possibility of an interstate venue. The Contempora Fellowship is supported by the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria ‚ Department of Premier & Cabinet.
