Haystacks at Moret morning light

oil on canvas

The impressionist preoccupation with capturing
the moment and the changing effects of light and weather conditions,
is particularly apparent in the paintings of Sisley.
Haystacks is painted, as the title indicates, in morning light.
From the clouds and dishevelled straw we know that a breeze is blowing.
In the right foreground the loose straw is painted in a whorl of mixed
colours - crimson, green and orange. Sisley, like most of the impressionists,
painted domestic landscapes close to habitation.
