Peter Booth has an international reputation as one of Australia’s most significant and influential artists. His work is central to the history of late twentieth century Australian art. Since its appearance in The Field in 1968 – the inaugural exhibition for the National Gallery of Victoria’s St Kilda Road building – Booth’s work has commanded sustained critical attention for its spectacular visual power, and the emotional intensity of its mysterious, complex and often disturbing narratives.

The National Gallery of Victoria presents the first major retrospective exhibition of work by Melbourne artist Peter Booth. This long-awaited exhibition surveys his career through painting, sculpture and work on paper.
