Decorative Arts

The Department of International Decorative Arts & Antiquities encompasses Mediterranean and Near Eastern antiquities and British and Continental decorative arts from the 1200s through to 1980, together with some American decorative arts of the 20th century.

It looks after ceramics, glass, metalwork, jewellery and furniture.

Strengths of the collection include Italian Renaissance maiolica, 17th and 18th century English glass, 18th century English and Continental porcelain, Wedgwood, 19th century English decorative arts, in particular furniture and ceramics, Viennese design of the early 20th century and 20th century decorative arts, with a focus on seat furniture.
