The previous framing of the painting was a composition rendering of a Louis XIV revival style frame (see image above). Similar frames to this one have been suggested as coming from the 1920s. It is equally likely that this frame was put on the painting at the time of sale/acquisition.
The reproduction frame profile was based on a frame on an Isaac Whitehead painting In the Sassafras Valley, Victoria in the Art Gallery of South Australia.
An old label on the stretcher of View of the snowy bluff gave framed dimensions of 6ft x 4ft 1", which, relative to the painting dimensions gave a frame width of 6 inches.
The painting was cleaned and restored in 2001.
