Light Years

Photography and space

Year Levels P-12

This resource accompanies the exhibition Light Years: Photography and space (2009), an exhibition of photographs drawn from the NGV collection to coincide with the International Year of Astronomy. The exhibition included some contemporary works but focused on the 1960s and 1970s, an exciting time for the artistic and scientific exploration of worlds beyond our own. Three key themes were considered: space travel, space allegories and science fictions, and altered perceptions. Using these themes as a starting point, this resource encourages students to explore ideas and issues about art, photography, science and space through a series of discussions, questions and activities.
