By combining theories of fate and coincidence (fate concerning a predetermined future, coincidence being complete random and chance) a performance was conducted involving a predetermined routine of making a cup of tea fifty times. The ‘drawing machine’ consisted of coat hangers with markers suspended and connected to my wrists via string documenting movement. The predetermined element of the performance related to the concept of fate; everything is predestined. The element of chance was achieved through the use of markers which allowed a random, coincidental quality. Stelarc’s idea of the human body being a machine was my inspiration.
