Ageing is inevitable. By using analogue and digital photography I explored the ageing process in youth and the elderly. This portrait portrays the repressed emotions that many young children consciously suffer. I was influenced by Annie Leibovitz’s ability to pinpoint certain emotions and Bill Henson’s gloomy, shadowy portraits. I used staged portraits andexperimented with lighting to contrast shadow and light the way Hensondoes. I wanted the murky tones and illuminated subject to hold the audience’s interest.
