This piece is an exploration of my own fears, primarily Thalassophobia (fear of the sea). As much as my phobias disturb me, I am also highly intrigued by them. It’s with this in mind that I have attempted to create a sense of aesthetic ‘attraction’, contrasted by a sense of ‘aversion’.
Advice to new students
Doing both VCE Art and VCE Studio Arts I’ve noted that it was crucial to be organised and to consistently work on your folio’s on a ritualistic basis. Also challenging yourself with your concepts and being bold with your ideas, but not being overly ambitious. Over-ambition may hinder the final product. Most importantly is to enjoy art and enjoy expanding your knowledge on artists. Use your knowledge from other subjects to support your work. Just basically have fun with it because it leaves you so quickly!
