Lionel Lindsay's love affair with Spain began in 1902. He considered his first visit, when he was unknown and poor, as the single most formative influence on his artistic career.
Lionel Lindsay: An Antipodean in Spain presents an
extensive selection of Lindsay's images of Spain which focus on its
architecture, landscape and people. Images of Australian rural subjects are
exhibited alongside, enabling a comparison of Lindsay's treatment of two
countries which he thought shared many physical similarities. The range of
exhibited material including prints, watercolours, drawings and sketchbooks,
provides a fascinating insight into Lindsay's creative process.
