ALEX BAKER

Alex Baker is Senior Curator, Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Victoria. Formerly Curator of Contemporary Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and associate curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art (both in Philadelphia), he has organised exhibitions with artists including Robert Ryman, Ellen Harvey, Phil Frost, Marcel Dzama, Monique van Genderen, Adam Cvijanovic, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, Margaret Kilgallen, Clare Rojas, and Steve Powers, among others.

Alex recently co-curated with Toby Kamps Space Is the Place, which is touring through Independent Curators International. An exhibition of recent drawings by Laylah Ali entitled Typology, curated by Baker and organised by the Pennsylvania Academy, is also currently on tour. He has a Ph.D. in visual anthropology from Temple University, Philadelphia.
