Durand-Ruel mounts a successful exhibition of Impressionist painting in New York, to Monet’s disapproval. Yet his work is favourably received in New York.

While painting at Belle-Île, Monet meets John Russell. The two artists paint together. Monet has a distinctive influence on Russell.
