In March Mirbeau publishes the first account of Monet’s garden in L’Art dans les deux Mondes. In June Monet is visited by a Japanese gardener. In July Monet speaks of arranging his house and garden to his satisfaction. In August he pays locals not to cut down the poplars he is painting until his series is complete.
