The Art of Margaret Preston

An exhibition featuring works by one of Australia’s most important 20th century artists opens this Saturday 12 November, at NGV Australia, Federation Square. Organised by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, this is one of the year’s must-see exhibitions.

Says Curator of Australian Art (20th Century) Geoffrey Smith: “Margaret Preston’s contribution to the development of modernism in Australian art during the interwar period was marked by a compulsive restlessness and inventiveness that both challenged and inspired.

“Through her tireless participation in exhibitions and as possibly the most reproduced artist of her generation – with designs for magazines, articles for journals and a proliferation of prints – Preston’s art and ideas saturated popular culture.”
