Art After Dark
Extended Hours for Commonwealth Games

The NGV will extend its opening hours for the duration of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square will remain open every day until 10pm, whilst NGV International at St Kilda Rd will continue its usual opening hours, but will include Tuesday 21st March, usually a day of closure.

At The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, visitors will be able to explore Land Marks, an inspired Indigenous Art exhibition in the BlueScope Steel Indigenous Galleries; 2006 Contemporary Commonwealth, a powerful and moving survey of contemporary art from 22 artists around Australia and the Commonwealth; the highly important exhibition Exiles and Emigrants, which documents the settlement of Australia in the 19th century; and Martin Grant, Paris, a look at the work of this acclaimed Melbourne designer.

Visitors to NGV International will have the chance to view an array of not-to-be-missed exhibitions, including Pissarro: The First Impressionist, an exhibition dedicated to the art of this celebrated Impressionist artist; William Kentridge: 7 Fragments for Georges Méliès, a series of films from the renowned South African filmmaker; two contemporary works from Glasgow Museums, Scotland, Douglas Gordon: A Moment’s Silence and Roderick Buchanan: Gobstopper; and a number of other fascinating collection shows.

There will also be a number of special events and performances in and around both Galleries, sure to entice visitors to spend more time at one of Melbourne’s favourite cultural venues.
