Charles Blackman: Alice in Wonderland

Delve into the imagination of Charles Blackman - one of Australia's most important living artists.

Blackman first heard Lewis Carroll's extraordinary tale of Alice in Wonderland on a 'talking book', as his wife Barbara was suffering from progressive blindness. This inspired Blackman to produce a series of paintings of Alice moving through a tableau of irrational situations that paralleled his wife's own experiences.

Following an Australia-wide search, 43 of Blackman's 46 paintings from the Alice in Wonderland series have been reunited for this Melbourne-exclusive exhibition.
