Golden Screens

Drawn from the NGV Collection, this exhibition focuses on the aesthetic and stylistic aspects of Japanese free–standing folding screens (byobu), their structure and function, and the traditional Japanese house and garden. Each screen is decorated with colourful paintings that evoke the sensuous beauty of flowers and birds, against a background of gold paper.
