The actor Onoe Baiko VI as the Demon Princess in the play 'The maple viewing party'

Taira Koremochi, a young warrior from Kyoto, went into the mountains in mid-autumn to hunt deer. He met a lovely young princess who invited him to view the maple leaves with her and drink sake (Japanese rice wine). Falling asleep, he dreamt that an attendant of the God of War was warning him that the princess was a demon in disguise and that she intended to kill him. The attendant spirit also presented him with a sacred sword.

When he woke up, Koremochi found the sword just as the princess in her true form rushed at him. After a long battle, Koremochi managed to slay the demon.
