Biography

Alan Winderoo Tjakamarra was born near Hidden Basin in Western Australia. His country, inherited from his father, was Yinpirrkawarnu, near Lapi Lapi, an important Water Dreaming site.

Tjakamarra began painting for Warlayirti Artists in 1987, but may have painted earlier as a result of his association with Yuendumu community, where he lived for a time.

He was a senior rainmaker for his country and another major theme was Windigee Tjukurrpa (small bird Dreaming). The artist's work was included in Mythscapes: Aboriginal Art of the Desert, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, 1989.
