Anmanari Brown was born at Purpurna, a big rock hole with lots of water and secret country of the water snake.
She travelled around with her family before kartiya (non-Aborignal people) came to the lands. Eventually she settled at Warburton mission in Western Australia, where she attended school. She now lives at Irrunytju with her daughters.
After failing to secure ATSIC or government funding, the Irrunytju community set up a second-hand shop in 2000 and made enough money to establish a functioning art centre.
Anmanari and other senior Pitjantjatjara women began painting on canvas at Irrunytju community soon after and the first exhibition of their work was held at Artplace, Perth in 2001.
