Fiona Omeenyo was born in Lockhart River ? the northern-most settlement on the east coast of Australia ? and belongs to the Umpila language group.
She obtained her Certificate of Visual Arts (ASTI) at Cairns TAFE, and attended printmaking workshops conducted by Yvonne Boag (1999), Paul Ramos (1999), Theo Tremblay (1999) and Guy Warren (1999). She emerged as an artist from the Lockhart River Art Gang and was awarded first prize, Works on Paper at the Laura Festival, Queensland in 1999.
Omeenyo held her first solo exhibition in Broome, Western Australia in 2001. Her work was featured in Story Place: Indigenous Art of Cape York and the Rainforest at the Queensland Art Gallery in 2003.
