Samantha Hobson was born in Lockhart River - the northern-most settlement on the east coast of Australia. She belongs to the Kuuku 'Ya'u (Sand Beach people) who live between the margins of the rainforest and the Coral Sea.
Hobson joined the Lockart River Art Gang in 1996 and received art training at formal and informal lessons offered at the Cairns Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE.
Hobson held her first solo exhibition From the Top at Andrew Baker Art Dealer, Brisbane. She was awarded second prize for painting and second prize for works on paper at the 2001 Laura Festival. Her work was prominently featured in Story Place: Indigenous Art of Cape York and the Rainforest at the Queensland Art Gallery in 2003.
