"I like to use the whole spectrum, including black, white, gold and silver as well. I've always used as much colour as I can. I haven't been trained as a painter so I naively just use every possible colour that I can get and often when I do paint I squeeze all the colours on the palette first and then mush them up and just use them helter skelter, or just any which way. I guess the palette also relates to other paintings that I've done in relation to an Ancestral Spirit, an Aboriginal Ancestral Spirit that had united a lot of our people. So I say the manifestation of this colour on all of my paintings is a reference to the Rainbow Serpent Ancestral Being." Gordon Hookey 2003
