Peggy Napangardi Jones depicts a black and white cockatoo and a green, yellow-spotted goanna against an audacious background divided into large sections of hot pink, blue and red.
She has approached the sheet of corrugated iron freely, as if it were a canvas. Peggy painted the work as a commission for the Art on Steel project, an SES/BHP sponsored fundraiser for the State Emergency Service facilitated by a touring exhibition and subsequent public auction.
She says of her work: "I do paintings anyway. I'm right for bush banana and bush orange - I do blackberries - that's my Dreaming from my mother and uncles - and willy wagtails and white 'cockies'. I put 'em anyway - kangaroos, bush potato - I can do 'em."
