Mparntwe or Alice Springs is home to the Arrente people. Built on the conjunction of the Anthelke Ulpeye (Charles) and Lhere Mparntwe (Todd) rivers, Alice Springs is almost the exact geographical centre of Australia.
The Ancestral Caterpillars - Yeperenye, Ntyarlke and Utnerrengatye - created the McDonnell Ranges around Alice Springs and the gaps are the heads that were bitten off in battle. The surviving caterpillars crawled across the landscape creating the rivers and the trees.
