Victorian E ssential Learning Standards
VELS are an integral part of the NGV Schools Programs for students and teachers. Innovative programs including tours and workshops are based on the VELS to engage students with original artworks and are designed to encourage a deep understanding of essential knowledge, skills and behaviours. Education through art promotes visual literacy, higher order thinking and communication skills and enhances students understanding of themselves and the world in which we live.

Post Compulsory
The extensive NGV Collection and temporary exhibitions of both Australian and International art at the National Gallery of Victoria complements Post Compulsory programs for VCAL, IB and VCE studies including Art, Studio Arts, Visual Communication and Design, Psychology, English, LOTE, History, Classical Societies and Cultures, Religion and Society and others by request.

Professional Learning Programs
Teachers are encouraged to participate in various programs which explore strategies for enriching the school curriculum using the NGV Permanent Collection and temporary exhibitions.

Education Partners
NGV Schools Programs at the National Gallery of Victoria is supported by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Catholic Education Office, COASIT and the Consulate General of Italy. NGV Schools Access Support is supported by VicHealth.
