The Art is Essential symposium includes lectures, presentations, practical workshops and discussions with leading art and art education advocates and practitioners, curators and artists. The two-day program will:
- assist in the practical implementation of the Essential Learning curriculum to be introduced in Victorian schools in 2005
- explore the essential role of the visual arts in education in the 21st century
- focus on the critical role that art education plays in improving student learning outcomes and in developing key skills, values and attributes, including those related to communication, cognition and thinking, social competency and cultural understanding
- provide both primary and secondary teachers with information, inspiration and interaction that will enrich their professional practice as both art advocates and educators.
