John Wolseley – Heartlands and Headwaters documents a major new body of work by one of Australia’s most distinguished contemporary artists.

Over the past four years (2011–15) John Wolseley has painted the diverse wetlands of Australia, from the swamps of the Tasmanian high country to the salt pans of the Mallee and the coastal flood plains of the tropical north. He camped for months beside strange and varied landscapes: sphagnum bogs, gilgais, billabongs, mound springs, desert wells, anabranches and mangrove swamps. In Heartlands and Headwaters, Wolseley combines his
individual mark-making processes with traditional watercolour techniques to create monumental, complex works that explore how water has defined and shaped the Australian continent.

Featuring insightful texts by Cathy Leahy, Helen McDonald and Wolseley himself, and sumptuously illustrated with full-colour photographs of the works and the artist producing them on site, this beautiful volume provides a unique understanding of
this significant new series.

Join Dr Isobel Crombie as she launches this handsome volume.  Following the launch John Wolseley will sign a limited number of copies.
