Sculpting Limestone with Noriko Nakamura

NGV International
Meet: North Entrance, (via Arts Centre forecourt)
Ground Level

Akio Makigawa is best-known for his contemplative Zen-like sculptures constructed from elemental materials, including stone. Learn how to carve from limestone over a glass of wine with Melbourne artist, Noriko Nakamura.

The class will include instruction on how to sketch your sculpture, a demonstration of how to use carving tools, finishing with the opportunity to carve and and sand your own limestone sculpture artwork.

All skill levels welcome.

Noriko Nakamura completed a Fine Art Foundation Diploma at Saint Martins College of the Arts and Design, University of the Arts London, before receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2012. Noriko  experiments with the transformational potential of materials in order to explore the relationship that exists between humans and the material world. Noriko has exhibited internationally and locally, including at Gertrude Street Contemporary and the National Gallery of Victoria.
