JOE CHINDAMO AND JULIE O’HARA
7–7.45pm & 8.45–9.30pm
Joe Chindamo has been described as one of the world’s best jazz pianists, having recorded twenty-three CDs under his own name and performing around the world. A unique, daring and exciting new voice in contemporary classical composition, his art has always transcended jazz, having composed concertos, chamber music and film music.
Julie O’Hara is a jazz vocalist, composer and educator from Melbourne who has been contributing to the music scene for over twenty years. Vocal improvisation is an essential element to her arrangements, with O’Hara using her voice as a section player, vocal harmoniser and soloist, pushing the boundaries of how voice can be utilised in contemporary music.
6–7pm and 7.45–8.45pm
Vocalist and trumpeter Audrey Powne’s music exhibits sophistication and virtuosity rarely demonstrated at her young age. Known for her nuanced soulful vocals, Australian soul fans will know her from performances with Vince Jones, Terence Blanchard, James Morrison and Leroy Jones, and for fronting Leisure Centre (FKA The Do Yo Thangs) and her own pop/soul project Au Drè. Audrey has performed for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Face The Music, Melbourne Music Week and Stonnington Jazz Festival, and for NGV Friday Nights she will be joined by pianist James Bowers, one of Melbourne’s most exciting young jazz musicians.
