Presented by Nick Horan
The egg, and the ovoid shape itself, is a life source and mystery. What is contained within? What potential does it hold? What is behind its veneer — and how can something so delicate be so strong and infinite? Superbly tapered, varied and with the potential to keep a life form safe; the egg is a (r)evolutionary design. It is nature’s perfect capsule. The surface tells stories — the mind can almost trace these patterns and entire landscapes can be imagined. Life and the human condition can be jagged, perhaps this is why we are drawn to this untouched, natural object — a design before and beyond us. Its breakability and resilience are familiar to us.
These fine art photographs speak to an endless life cycle, and celebrate the purest of nature’s productions.
This event is located at Melbourne Design Week’s offsite venue Watchmaker presented by Piccolina Gelateria and Laminex, and supported by Hub Furniture, Creative Victoria, National Gallery of Victoria. The exhibition design of Watchmaker has been materialised by Folk Architects.
