Artist statement
There is a shared characteristic in my collection, all the pieces do something; they can be played with. There are many industrial products adaptable for jewellery use, but magnets and ball bearings must be used as they are, the maker is the one that must adapt. Two of the pieces – the Wristatron and the Ball race bangle – were very hard won. The Wristatron is a dream made solid, a magnet- and gravity-powered particle ccelerator … well, sort of. The Ball race bangle feels like a generic piece to me, much can be developed from it. The Magnetic neck ring and the Magnetic ring can be used in conjunction with all sorts of things. I like the ball bearings but nails, iron filings and ball chains all have their look. The Armscrew winds on your arm, it feels secure and silky. This modest group of pieces represents a far greater effort gone before in the development stage.
