Artist statement
There always ends up being a narrative of what constitutes a wearable object, an acknowledgement of its construction in order to refer to itself. The neckpiece (chain of beads) as an archetype usually runs in a circle without a seam.
My neckpieces have very common problems: they are not seamless and come to life at the point of interruption. They split/shift horizontally/melt into each other/drop into a bundle, no longer
lining up. To me, they are very physical, which is
also reflected in the use of materials and colours.
The pendants of mild steel and metal beads are
much more drawings than physical bodies.
These are drawings about beads, how they gather
into defined spaces or how a string of beads would
curl up. These pieces are much more about patterns
that occur when thinking flatly.
