Artist statement

The original soft seating idea for Flow has evolved from an initial scribble. A sleek, organic, hollow shape has been developed while maintaining its fluidity throughout the process of sketching, technical drawing and prototyping. It offers high and low seating possibilities along its length and is an integrated form in all planes – seat, back and sides. The aerodynamic form references speed cars of the 1950s.

Handmade, the hollow form is highly finished inside and out as a testament to true craftsmanship, quality and honesty in manufacturing. The material selections of fibreglass and carbon fibre make it suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Accompanying components have been designed to offer modular seating options, allowing a larger unit to extend into larger spaces. A softer upholstered version is also available. A rotationally moulded, enclosed form that can be used for water storage is currently being considered for private and public spaces.

From an idea, Flow is now a product and a resolved alternative in private and public seating.
