Artist statement

The Blanket chair has been described as 'almost Amish in its simplicity' and 'slender as a catwalk model'. The approach for this design was influenced by a desire for a simplistic lifestyle, while paying homage to the open spaces of our Australian landscape. The Blanket chair's minimal form and economic use of materials enables it to be manufactured viably within Australia.

We are inspired not so much by what is there, but by what is missing. We combine fabrication techniques from different projects to create a single design form, like playing with Lego. We like hard, clean surfaces. In a multidisciplinary forum based on our ideas about the tonal value of design, we envisage a wider scope to explore techniques to utilise in our existing work and, excitingly, to experiment with different materials.
